A. and Associates, local archi tects. This building will fulfill a long apparent need for the city and will provide adequate facilities for efficient operation of all municipal government processes. Containing approximately 10.000 square feet of floor spare, the building is planned as a modern, efficient, fire resistant structure fronting on South Mountain . But nil full time acti vities of the City will be housed on the around floor. There is a public lobby with toilets and rest rooms loea'ed just inside the main entrance. Directly accessible on the around floor are offices housing the city tax. water ard light accounting and collec tion nersonnel, the City C’leik. the <'ity Manager, and Chief of A stair in the lob1 y leads to the Com! Room at second floor. Also on second floor ire spaces 'for the County Health Depart ment and County Tax Collector. A drive down the North side of the building makes aocessiulo the tear entry which serves the police department. The police depart ment contains space with showers for police officers, and an office available for use by the State Pa col and State Came Warden. A one story winy of the building i* rear hrti.se.- a modern, fully eouipped. fire proof jail. The iait area houses aix individ ual orison cells with two of these arranged to provide complete iso lation for juvenile or female pris oners. In addition to these six cells, the. e are two larger cells which would accomodate four prisoners each. The jail cells each contain toilet facilities. The jail portion has been designed in ac cordance with requirements of the Department of Welfare, State of North Carolina. The rear area of the second floor provides ample space for citv council meeting rooms and for lounge and steeping quarters with bath for tinmen. The fire department opens to South Mountain Street and is large enough to provide for four nieces of file fighting equipment, thereby considering future growth of the city. Th,> police dutv office ai-o has supervision over the fire depart ment, so that during night time ''Derations, the night duty activ ities can lie fullv supervised with a minimum number of personnel.
